First of all, some contrasts. Here are the before and after pics of the condenser unit (outside) and the air handler (in the basement):

This rusty old unit has had a good life of 23 years. It has performed good service, but is terminally ill.
So far, everything is working as advertised. The humidity level has slowly gone down, the temperature stays pegged to the set point, and the house is very comfortable. Above all, the system is extremely quiet. It’s hard to tell when it is actually running. It took me an hour or so to connect the thermostat to my network, set up a Nexia account (free if you are just using the thermostat and not some other Nexia device), and get my heating/cooling schedule tweaked. It will probably take us awhile to do the fine tuning adjustments, but we are very pleased so far.
